Trees in Boise
Boise's older neighborhoods are shaded by big silver maples, cottonwoods and elms planted generations ago, and many of them are reaching the age where limbs fail and trunks start to decay from the inside. Summer windstorms and heavy, wet spring snow are what usually bring them down across the Treasure Valley. Newer subdivisions in Meridian, Nampa and Eagle have the opposite problem: young trees planted too close to the house that now need shaping before they reach the roof.
What moves the price
Height and trunk diameter set the floor. Risk sets the rest: proximity to the structure, overhead lines, equipment access, and what has to be protected below. Emergency work after a storm prices differently than scheduled work, because it means crew and equipment pulled off another job the same day. Stump grinding is usually quoted separately, so ask whether it is in or out of your number.

Questions we get in Boise
It depends on the height and trunk size, how close the tree sits to the house or the lines, and whether a truck can reach it. Two trees the same size can be priced thousands apart. The arborist gives you a firm written number after a free visit on site.
Sometimes. Some cities protect large or heritage trees, and many HOAs have their own rules. The arborist checks the local rules for your address before quoting.
Often, when the tree falls on a covered structure like the house, the garage or a fence. A standing tree, or one that fell in the yard without hitting anything, usually is not covered. Call your insurer before the work and send them the written estimate.
If a healthy tree comes down in a storm, the neighbor's own policy usually handles it. If the tree was dead or visibly dangerous and you knew it, you can be held responsible. That is the best reason to have a risky tree looked at before storm season.
Emergency calls go first. Tell us if the tree is on a structure or blocking a driveway and it moves to the front of the line.
